Opposition MP 'disappears' amid affair rumours

Amid rumours of an extramarital affair with a married woman, Hougang's Member of Parliament (MP) Yaw Shin Leong has disappeared from the public eye.
Since the allegations surfaced, the Workers' Party (WP) member has cancelled his weekly Meet-the-People session (MPS), The Straits Times reported on Saturday.
The paper found a notice announcing the cancellation of Mr Yaw's MPS taped to the wall at the void deck of an Hougang flat, where the MPS is usually held.

The 35-year-old was also absent from the Hougang office of the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council, the paper said. Staff said he has not been seen since it opened on Wednesday after the Chinese New Year holiday. According to the paper's sources, Mr Yaw was known to pop in at the office frequently.
Last Friday, reports surfaced alleging that Mr Yaw had an affair with a married woman who is from the Workers' Party as well.
Mr Yaw, the WP's treasurer, last spoke to The New Paper on Jan 26, indicating that he had no wish to comment on rumours.
Since then, Mr Yaw has been unreachable either by phone or by e-mail, The Straits Times said.
No one was at home when the national daily visited his house on Jan 26. Neighbours said they did not see the couple that day.
Five other WP parliamentarians when contacted by the paper, did not respond or replied "no comment".
Mr Yaw joined the Workers' Party in 2001. He succeeded Mr Low Thia Khiang, WP's secretary-general, in Hougang when Mr Low left the single-seat ward to contest in Aljunied GRC for the 2011 election.
